Powder Room Reno
The powder room was another space that desperately needed a remodel, but we lived with it for close to two years after moving in. I like to take breaks between major projects because I don’t want to break the bank. As a financial planner, I know how important it is to space projects out so that it doesn’t put a strain on our finances. So we hired the same team that did our kitchen because we were really happy with their work. Finishes are really important to me and they do an amazing job at that so I went back to them for this project. Here is the embarrassing before picture below; the vanity doors were falling apart, the toilet wouldn’t flush properly and it was dark and dingy in there because of the poor lighting.
I created three moodboards to help visualize the space and play with vanity options, floor tile and accessories. The espresso vanity was my absolute favorite, but I didn’t go with it because it comes with drawers and not doors. As much as I put an emphasis on aesthetic when it comes to interior decor, functionality is even more important. A vanity with doors gives me enough room to store cleaning products for easy access. I ended up choosing the cabinet on the right for a transitional look.
As you can see below, we completed gutted the room and I couldn’t have been happier.
We had a delay with the reno due to issues with the vanity. At first the wrong color vanity was delivered, then when the right color came there was a crack in the marble. So I had to wait for another one to get delivered and guess what, that one was also cracked. At this point I was pretty disappointed with Wayfair, but they did let me keep the cracked vanity which I sold it As Is on Marketplace for a fraction on the original price. So this gray one below is the incorrect color and the one I purchased was sort of a green color.
The contractor did a little rewiring to allow for sconces and I couldn’t be happier I made that choice, although that meant I had to go with a narrower mirror but I was ok with that.
Then the tile went in. I had such a hard time settling on an option, but I am really happy with this hexagon shaped tiles.
And after a three-week delay due to the vanity, the powder room was finally completed and I absolutely love it. I have considered adding wall molding or maybe wallpaper, but for now I am happy with the result.
