Kitchen Reno

The kitchen was the very first project in our home. We closed on this split-level home on December 28, 2018 and were so excited to have found a home in a great neighborhood and convenient location. However we bought the ugliest house on the block and knew it needed quite a bit of TLC and the kitchen was the space that needed the most work (see before pics below). We were living in a condo at the time and only had a little over a month to complete the full kitchen reno. My husband got to working and got a few quotes from different contractors, and we settled on a small family owned kitchen and bath business.

The Before…

The layout remained the same but we did move some things around and the biggest change was taking this entire wall down (see above pic), which opened up the kitchen to the dining room and I couldn’t be happier we made that decision. This also meant that we were losing the small pantry.

Here are the changes we made:

  • We created a small pantry where you see the fridge

  • Moved the fridge to the left, where the oven is in the above photo

  • Replaced the cooktop stove with a gas range

  • Gained extra storage by installing an island in the center, which I was elated about

  • We also changed the floors to LVP floors which are really practical for a kitchen specially when you have small children like me and bound to have spills multiple times a day

Everything got ripped out…

The light fixture on the right was removed and recessed lights installed throughout the kitchen.

All dry-walled up and the island was starting to take shape. Did I mention how excited I was about getting and island…yeah game changer.

Cabinets going in and yep I went with an all-white kitchen. Although fast forward a few years white kitchen are no longer a thing, I am still in love with mine and love how the natural light bounces off the cabinets and it make me so happy to walk into my bright kitchen every morning.

I couldn’t be happier with how the kitchen turned out and I love the pop of color in the island.

I went back and forth on wether I should move the sink to the island, but happy I ended up keeping it where it is because to be honest the dishes are not always done immediately and it is nice to have them tucked away on the side as opposed to dirty dishes in the middle of the island. Another plus is that I have a huge prep space, which we also use to lay out our dishes when we have big gatherings.
